Running on Scare amounts of sleep, and Loving Every Minute of it.
The sign of a good time can be measured in the amount of sleep you’re getting. So it’s safe to say, I’m having the time of my life. My sleep schedule is as consistent as a newborn baby. I have been getting to bed at 2:00/3:00am and this seems normal and 5:00am is not unreasonable. I’m not resting much at all, because we’re all living every moment to the fullest and it’s been unexplainable. Sure, a thing or two sucks every now and then but then I remember, ‘you’re in freakin Europe, who cares about something you won’t even remember tomorrow!’
I spent time in Costa Brava, visiting the Salvador Dali museum, which is also where he is laid to rest. We spent time in Girona, Spain and then a day on the beach in Tossa de Mar. Every new place I go in Spain continues to amaze me because I expected it to be good, but it’s beyond good.
We took a cooking class and made chorizo and green pepper tapas. For a girl who doesn’t do a lot of cooking, I didn’t do too bad!
I spent the day in Sitges, Spain, on the beach and in the water. Besides getting one of the worst sunburns of my life and my friend getting stung by a jellyfish while swimming in the water I was just in, it was a fantastic day. PSA: 3 layers of sunscreen does not help when the UV is a 10. In Nebraska we barely top 6, maybe 7 for UV.
That sunburn did slow me down a bit, and I took it easy for a day or two and missed out on some pretty fun experiences others had, but I had to do it. And guess what, I tackled my famous FOMO. I put myself and my crispy skin first and stayed close to home. I explored Barcelona on my own a bit more, shopped, ate at a phenomenal place called Brunch and Cake and took photos for my photography class. It was a relaxing couple of days. And I was glad for it because when my friends returned we had big plans to celebrate the Summer Solstice which is a very big deal in Barcelona. We spent the night on the beach with everyone else, not getting home until 5am. The sun, what an awesome thing to celebrate! Ironically though, after it scorched every inch of my porcelain skin…
I was able to visit La Sagrada Familia, a famous cathedral in Barcelona. The cathedral has been under construction for 136 years and has plans to be finished in 2022. The experience was one of the most heartwarming things I’ve ever done. I am not necessary the most religious, however, walking into the cathedral took my breath away. Everywhere I turned I saw stained glass and intricate details Guadí designed for the building.
I’ve been to the Camp Nou stadium. This is where FC Barcelona fútbol team plays. It is the largest fútbol stadium in Europe, holding 99,354 fans!
I’ve watched two sunsets at the Carmel de bunkers which is an old military bunker at the top of Barcelona. It over looks all of Barcelona on both sides!
I’ve continued to meet people and if you know me, you know this is something I love to do. My roommate Lilly is this cute, fun, sweet girl from Colorado who is on the track team at UNL, and she’s outgoing and also loves to meet people. I lucked out in the roommate department, I didn’t know her before and I know we’ll be connected for life after this experience. We shared the worlds smallest bedroom for 3 weeks until our 2 other roommates when back to their home state and left their room empty. We spread out and each have our own room now, but it’s still the two of us in the apartment together.
This has been a very quick and dirty catch up session of my life, which has been like living a dream nearly every second I’ve been here. I still have 10 days left and I intend to make the best out of each of them. My next adventure is 1 day in London, England, this is a top 5 bucket list thing for me for sure.
Hasta la próxima~
